I schedule my sessions between 2-4 weeks out, depending on availability and time of year. Contact me as soon as you know that you’d like to book so that you have some options for dates.
Maternity sessions are typically scheduled between 30-36 weeks. We want for your belly to be nice and pronounced but for you to still be pregnant AND comfortable! For newborn sessions, it is best to contact me before the baby is born!
Maternity & milestone sessions typically last 30-45 minutes. Clients can expect a child/family session to take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. There is not time limit on the session as we want to make sure that children are relaxed and comfortable. If parents are uptight then the kiddos will be too. The best recipe for a successful child or family session = relaxed and playful parents!
Newborns vary greatly, but on average, last between 3 – 3 1/2 hours. We take lots of breaks to keep baby full and sleepy! My clients are welcome to bring food or snacks to the studio during this session.
Don’t stress, there are tons of ideas on Pinterest for child/family photography! I think it’s important to be comfortable so keep it simple (avoid clothing with lettering), fun, and cohesive. I have found that neutral colors and one or two prints make for a foundation that is timeless in nature. Avoid neon or bright colors as they are the least flattering.
Gap, Old Navy, Crazy 8, and Gymboree are great places to start your search.
I offer online styling assistance for my clients that book a full family session. And as always, you can ask questions or even send me ideas once you have scheduled your session!
Depending on the age of your child/ren, you may want to bring something that is of comfort to them. A blanket, pacifier, toy, or treat (marshmallows or cheerios are awesome because they are small and do not stain clothing!) can really help them to warm up to the camera. We will play around a lot (I have bubbles, small treats, or noise makers too) to bring out a genuine and
silly smile.
Make sure that young children get a good nap and have a full stomach before we meet because let’s face it…aren’t we all a little cranky when we are tired and hungry?!
You will receive detailed information about what you’ll need to do in preparation for your newborn session once you book! In the meantime, happy reading!
I shoot two days per week and an occasional weekend so it’s best to schedule your session as early as possible! Newborn sessions can book out months in advance…so schedule your consultation around the 20 week mark.
If the schedule allows, I will try to squeeze in clients so it’s always a good idea to ask!
Newborn babies are typically best to photograph between 5-14 days old. At this age, they are more tolerant of being positioned, will typically “curl up” easily, and are sleepy throughout the session. If your baby is older than 2 weeks old, don’t worry, we can still capture your newborn but it may take more effort and some of the poses that you see on my website may be too
difficult to get.
That’s easy…send an email, call, or text once your baby is born (within 1-2 days of birth) so that we can get your session on the calendar. If you do not contact me within the first week, I cannot guarantee that there will be an opening within the first two weeks.
Newborn sessions often run long due to the nurturing and patience it takes to pose an infant so you can expect it to take between 2 1/2 – 3 1/2 hours. I do not like to rush the session and we take breaks as needed to soothe or feed the baby. Your newborn’s comfort and safety are my priority.
I encourage clients to bring something to relaxing to do while I photograph your newborn. Newborn babies can sense tension so we do our best to create a serene and relaxing environment where you can read, write thank you notes, eat, play games on your phone, or nap!
You bet! Sibling and parent poses take place at the very beginning of the session and last between 45 – 60 minutes. Little ones get impatient during newborn pictures so I recommend that they are picked up or leave once we finish with family pictures.
Bring a pacifier (these are the key to keeping baby asleep while repositioning them) and a bottle with formula or breast milk. If you are nursing exclusively, we will take breaks as needed for you to feed baby! Once you book and after you have your baby I will send you detailed information about everything you will need to do prior to your session!
